Abstract. Remanufacturing engineering is the industrialization of high technology maintenance to the waste productions, is a kind of independent innovation combining with the Chinese character, is the advanced manufacturing mode for saving energy, and is the high stage in the maintenance development.
The important character of the remanufacturing engineering is that the quality of the remanufactured productions is as same as or superior to the new productions, and the cost is only a half of the new one, saving energy 60 %, saving materials 70 %, and decreasing the bad influence to environments. The remanufactured product belongs to the new product but not the secondhand one.
The advanced surface engineering technology is the support technology for remanufacturing engineering. In the 10th Five-year Plan (2001-2005), several advanced surface engineering technology, aimed at the local repair of components, had been developed, such as high velocity arc spraying, nano electric-brush plating, laser surface welding, micro arc plasma melting, nano anti-friction self-repairing and nano plasma spraying technology, as well as the residual lifetime prediction for surface engineering. In the 11th Five-year Plan, another advanced surface engineering technology, aimed at the total repair of components, represented as the digital rapid forming platform technology, will be developed. In the platform, besides laser rapid forming technology, which forms directly the alloy powder, there are the automated high velocity arc spraying rapid forming technology and micro arc plasma melting rapid forming technology. The digital rapid forming platform technology is the important direction for surface engineering.
