摘要
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is a ubiquitous space lubricant, yet susceptible to degradation by atomic oxygen (AO) in low Earth orbit, impacting material durability. Here, we employ structural optimization to present a series of MoS2/metal nano-multilayer films by fine-tuning sputtering parameters. Our approach, bolstered by theoretical calculations and experiments, elucidates the dynamic behaviors of various metals on MoS2 surfaces. MoS2 in combination with Ti, W, or Pb tends to assume a layered structure, while Ag prefers agglomeration within the film. This precise nano-multilayer architecture, comprising alternating highly oriented MoS2 and metal layers, effectively restricts oxidation depth less than 35 nm, surpassing previous space lubricants. Intriguingly, metal oxide nanoparticles formed during AO irradiation further reduce friction, enabling robust superlubricity (~0.008). This achievement is facilitated by numerous incommensurate nano-contacts between highly oriented MoS2 and oxide nanoparticles. Our findings provide invaluable insights into interface design, promising durable and irradiation-resistant lubricating films for space applications.
