Influence of the sinusoidal texture on tribological characteristics and oil retention property of cemented carbide under oil lubrication

The continuous lubrication property of the lubricating oil between the friction pairs can reduce the wear of mechanical parts and increase their service life. In this work, the nanosecond laser was used to prepare four kinds of textured surfaces with various of width-to-depth ratios on the cemented carbide. Under the condition of quantitative oil lubrication, the reciprocating sliding experiment was carried out using a pin-disk friction tester. Combined with finite element analysis, the effect of different width-depth ratio on the friction and wear properties and the lubricating oil retention mechanism were investigated. The results show that the sinusoidal texture can improve the wear resistance of the surface and reduce the adhesive wear behavior. The friction coefficient was the lowest when the width-depth ratio was 1.35, the corresponding wear loss and friction coefficient were reduced 74% and 7.7%, respectively. When the width-depth ratio is 1.35, the sinusoidal texture had better surface oil spreading performance and better oil retention performance during friction, which improved the tribological properties of the surface. When the oil supply is less than 30ul, the tribology of the surface was inversely proportional to the oil supply. When the oil supply is 30ul, the textured surface can generate a larger hydrodynamic pressure, resulting in a smaller friction coefficient. The research in this paper will provide a certain basis for the optimization design of sinusoidal texture and provide some theoretical support for the study of the oil retention performance of the texture surface.
